VISITOR CENTER in the Ore of the Alps UNESCO Global Geopark!
Fascinating interactive journey for the whole family into the world of colorful ores
The Ore of the Alps Unesco Global Geopark Visitor Center lies on the grounds of the ski jumping area in Bischofshofen, a world-famous host venue for ski jumping competitions. Right next to the iconic Paul Ausserleitner ski jumping hill, you will find the impressive addition to the Austria House, which actually housed the Austrian Olympic Team during the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. The Visitor Center itself was built in the years 2014/15 as a BayAut Interreg Project in partnership with Siegsdorf Natural History and Mammoth Museum (Bavaria).
The Visitor Center is the central focal point of the Geopark. The participating communities – Bischofshofen, Mühlbach am Hochkönig, Hüttau and St. Veit – present themselves in a joint exhibition with true-to-the-original displays revolving around prehistoric and historic ore mining, transforming the theme into a quite extraordinary and very “tangible” experience. The visitor receives a diverse overview of the entire Geopark and its many attractions, including geo-sites, historic mines and mine galleries as well as museums. Every year, the Visitor Center hosts special exhibitions. This year’s exhibition calendar includes “Himalayas – The Fifteenth 8,000er”.
